Great way to decompress
Work sucked this week, so I decided to take the "back" way home by a lake along a rather wonderful winding road. It was the first time that I got to push my 80 Spider harder than usual - I never drive it hard, but did give it a little bit of a workout. All I can say is that I came home looking like this:

Re: Great way to decompress
A drive in the Spider always puts a smile on my face. If I'm having a bad day, I just jump in the car, take it for a nice drive through the country and my headache disappears.

Wife and I take Spider therapy rides a few times a week. Connecticut has miles and miles of roads perfect for the car. A true joy we both enjoy.

Re: Great way to decompress
I am very gentle with all my cars. I learned in my youth that avoiding squealing tires, fishtailing around corners, running RPMs above 4500, etc., make cars last longer. So...I didn't push it to that point. I did, however, push it right up to that limit and it was great fun. What do u call pushing it hard? Can't u drive it

I am the same, I baby it and drive it pretty gently, but I do like to let it run out in 2nd and 3rd. Drilling a few big holes in the airbox adds a great tone to the engine sound and it seems like it is peppier.

John,
No limit on great back roads where you live. By the way, the Spider has been back on the road for a while now. Time for a road trip. Got some time?

Re: Great way to decompress
Just back from vaction in Colorado. As I was driving the suburban around those roads with the family I was dreaming of my Spider. Colorado is an awesome state!
Your right about taking it easy in a 30+ year old sports car. However. I would also say that the real fun for some begins when you get it over 4500 RPM's. I try to keep it over 3000 RPM's and under 6200 RPM's when having a spirited drive.I am very gentle with all my cars. I learned in my youth that avoiding squealing tires, fishtailing around corners, running RPMs above 4500, etc., make cars last longer.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!
