Best Manual for Dummies.

Well, I have decided to take your advice and start the rebuild of my spare motor and I have the downloaded version of the manual and the photos are really poor. When I re-built my 69 IH Scout, I had one of the original shop manuals from IH and it was great (still have it -should probably let that go on ebay). So, if you guys and gals are game, lets have an un-official poll as to what is the best manual to use? Remember, I have a lack of common sence .

Get an original manual, not downloaded/photocopied.
And then get a different one, and use both as good cross-reference.
Then use this forum's search function to find more info than in either manual.

Honestly, for something as in-depth as an engine re-build, more than one reference source would be the best.

The Brooklands is not bad. As mentioned the original would be really helpful. I bought a photo copied copy and I'd rate it as 6-7 out of ten. The pics can lack some detail. but it has come in handy regardless.
Before you start, have you a plan as to what you want the result to be? A snotty powerhouse or decent power but still drivable in traffic?
I have found or realized in my FI 2L the noticable power increase came from the head work,Marks FI cams and degree-ing in the engine with the adjustable cam wheels.
Don't forget to have a lightened flywheel as well eh.. Balanced... oversized pistons... headers...
Have fun and take pics. If you have computor skills take a look at the video clip where the fellow rebuilt a, looks like, Spitfire engine, set it to music and animation..

Getting off topic but the above might be prevelant east of the Rockies but in BC it can be a bit different..
Varies between eating fresh mussels while sipping a vintage red from the Okanagan to Organic carrot juice while kite surfing off Squamish spit to Budwiser and peanuts while watching a mud-bog...
Actually I see very little "Blue" bought here. Bud or MGD is beer of choice.
