Gooey Transmission Mount
I've never seen this happen before - I checked the transmission mount on my 80 manual...it is soft and gooey as if the rubber is dissolving. Has anyone ever seen this before? There are no fluid leaks at all. Looks like I'll have to replace it.

Re: Gooey Transmission Mount
Oh yeah, mine melted into a gooey mess years ago. I attribute it to the heat and an oil leak from my 40 year old engine.
It's not that hard to change, but while you're in that area, check your driveshaft donut to make sure it's not starting to come apart.

Re: Gooey Transmission Mount
Yesterday I replaced my doughnut after earlier replacing the transmission mount. The transmission mount was almost gooey and the doughnut was very soft. The car now accelerates much more fluidly. Getting the new doughnut in was a challenge but persistence paid off. Oh ... I also noted that two of the bolts on the doughnut were stretched so I replaced all of them. It felt good catching what could have been a hazardous situation early and fixing it.
