real close... is that laden or unladen?... the fiat service manual calls for the car to have the average weight of 2 persons with an additional 130 lbs to act as luggage weight!

Front suspension settings my FIAT Factory Service Manual:
total toe= .12" ± .039"
camber -.5° ± .5°
caster + 3.5° ± .5° (I think +2.5° is more reasonable here... less tire scrub)

Rear Suspension is nonadjustable...

Cheers!

Hi,

I had a bit of negative camber dialed in last time and will go for more next, looking for just about what you've got there, more like -.8L, -1R.

Took a lot of plow out of the old horse.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi,

There's an unladen spec Service Letter for 1980-1981, SL-000-49, 6-11-81, that doesn't differ much.

Same values for Caster and Toe, +.5deg -0/+.5 for camber.

PM me your email and I'll send you the PDF.

Thanks,
Mark

Here's a question:

Can the alignment be completed accurately without the swaybar on?

It is giving me some trouble and I want to get the car aligned today.

When I got my 1980 Fiat Spider in 2003, I had a local alignment specialty shop go through the front suspension and align it. Apparently, they did not add weight to the car.

Last year, it went on a couple road trips (1,600+miles and <400 miles). When I put it away for the winter, I noticed the inside tread of the front tires had worn completely away. There was a ~1" band of bright steel belt showing on each tire.

When I replace the tires and have it aligned this spring, I shall put ~500-650 pounds of weight in it. It is aggravating to have to do that each time the alignment is checked, but I guess that is the price of having such a nice little car, eh?
