any fiberglas kit cars that fit onto the 124?

I"m wondering if there's any glas body kits, or complete shells that you can bolt up over the 124 monocoque.

None yet. Care to make one?

Like most modern cars all of the panels are stressed to one degree or another, you can't really cut much away and expect the car to be a strong structure. Most kit cars don't bother with structural integrity.

There are (were?) a few for the series one Miata but not many for cars like this.

There is someone out there who has the Ferrari California 250 Kit for these cars my friend Shane developed, designed
and built a few of these cars with the ideal of selling them as a kit car but he passed away a few years ago. After
his passing the family sold the project to someone back east who has the molds and plans for this kit . There's a
lot of work involved you need to cut some of the front end off some of the rear end glue new fiberglass molds in
place of, a New Hood and trunk, A Dash like this one below etc etc. I worked on these cars for Shane he wasn't
much of a mechanic but amazing with fiberglass and upholstery with an eye for detail. If you want to talk to the
guy who purchased this kit i'll look up his info by contacting Shanes family for you ? I also know most of the parts
he used to build this.

I have nothing at all against kit cars: I would, in fact, love a Porsche Speedster on an old VW, for example.

But I don't see it with these beautiful cars we all have.

To each his own. :D

Yes i built a mild 2 Liter Fiat Engine with 290 duration Cams and Dual 40 IDFs The engine ran good but he put
a silly very small air cleaner that caused a lot of restriction on the air flow and the car never ran as good as it
could of with a normal size air cleaner. He had all the fiat drive line it's the outer appearance that was change
on the most part. The dash and center console are custom the seats he just removed the head rest.

a car is just a ride. You can make of it whatever you want...and take from it whatever you want. Personally, I love that build that imitates a Ferrari Spider. In my opinion the 1958-1962 California Spider is THE most beautiful car ever made. I would buy one in a heart beat if I ever won the lotto...I admit, I very rarely buy a ticket.
On a footnote; I actually made an offer on Nicolas Cage's 1962 long-body Ferrari California Spider last year. I offered $150k USD! and said if he could take comfort in knowing it was going to a loving home. He actually replied saying; well you gaver us a good laugh down here Jim; you do know it is appraised at $5m? I said yes...but my offer still stands :)

Anyways, I tried to contact the owner of that kit car to see if they would sell her. I think the design and build are absolutely beautiful!!!
No reply :(

Imagine, Jim... you came within $4.85 million of the asking price and he turned you down??? What a jerk. I'm glad I didn't see his last 4 or 5 movies!

The "Ferrari 250 spider(s)" that were used in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off were actualy Fiat 124 spiders made up to look like the Ferrari 250 California Spider. I wonder if it was the same guy who made a few replicas for the movie?

I've seen plenty of kit cars, some good and some bad. The bad one's you can spot from 100 feet away. The good ones can fool you sometimes, but there is always one or several details that are not right and stick out. It seams the late 60's through the 70's and into the early 80's kit cars had their heyday. You could could get 20 different bodies that could be bolted onto a VW chassis, the only problem was your "exotic" still sounded like a VW. I guess the two most prevelant and successful kit cars are AC Cobras and Porsche 356's. Neither of which were higly detailed in their original forms so kit cars were easy to do for those models.

I guess everyone has their favorite or what they consider the most beautiful. I'm partial to the Fiat dino spider, something about those front fenders and front grill opening that gets me. The Ferrari 250 does not have enough curves for me, but the Ferrari dino does, go figure.

Nick Cage is not known for his sound investments, rather the opposite. He may now be rethinking your offer.

I remember reading somewhere in one of the classic car mags that it was over a corvette chassis???? From memory (it was actually on TV here not so long ago) the sound wasn't a V12 but more v8???
This may need some investigation, I wonder is SIRI (when she feels like working??) know the answer??
