k & n filter setup

Post by steve8462 »

everybody needs to visit the k & N filter website at http://www.knfilter.com
once there enter your vehicle information. it will tell you that they don't make a filter setup for the fiat spider and will ask you if you want them to notify you when a setup becomes available for your model. if enough of us do this hopefully they will design a setup for the Fiat Spiders. i think it would be awesome to have a direct fit setup. lets give it a try.

IAP's K&N setup works great. Just needs a better mounting bracket setup.

What a bummer. That thing looks great but I lack the ability to make one myself. :(

Mine has just a bent piece of bar stock in the shape of an L. The lower leg bolts to the lower platform and the upper leg bolts to the two vertically oriented mounts on the engine side of the air mass meter. Previous owner got the kit from IAP so maybe the bracket was part of it.

The bracket was too tall to do that on my car. Hood wouldn't shut. Had to cut the bracket way down and now it holds the AFM by only one bolt. Not ideal.

Jammer, could you just drill a new hole or two lower on the bracket?

Tried that. The angle is the problem. Can't get the AFM to sit entirely level given the air intake hose.

The following thread is worth a read. Not certain if Gus is still manufacturing brackets.

K&N makes filters that fit the stock FI air box and the stock Carbed round air cleaner. They run about $50 and several of the vendors carry them.

If you do the calculations you will find the stock FI rectangular filter element has a larger surface area than a "performance" cone filter (depending on what size cone you use). Also the stock FI air box will draw in cooler air than an un-shielded cone. Same is true for the round carbed air cleaner element and housing versus a square "lunch box" type.
