Hey! It was totally innocent, and 100% consentual. While under there, I got a good look at those bouncy things, and wondered if they had been reduced, but Denise says that they have always been that size (oh, the springs, of course!) ,>)

I ended up getting the koni yellows and "performance" springs from Bruce's auto parts.

We had to cut the rear rear springs on my '79 spider to achieve a level look to the car.

This was a year ago, and I drove it from the shop that did the work to my garage (20 min drive) and have not driven the car since. We began tearing the engine apart the next day.

One dowside I figured out regarding cutting the rear springs: when you jack up the car, the springs will be too short to stay seated at the top. you need to line things up as you lower the car, every time.

I'd ask you how the ride was on the chopped springs, but I dont think you can tell me. 20 min. in the last year is not enough.

Are you saying that you cut the Performance springs or your old ones?

I would have had to cut the original springs, but did not.

I did have the new performance rear springs cut. Without cutting, my car looks jacked up in the rear. Not to my taste. As you correctly summised, I haven't driven the car enough time to speak about it yet. I will say that within the 20 mile I drove, all the quirky pulling, and creaking seemed to be gone, but beyond that not a stellar leap in ride change.

I hope to prove that recollection wrong.

I am getting very close to being back on the road with it, and will update.

Funny you asked.

The moter mounts had been replaced and were in good condition, but looked a bit ratty. I found some fancy rubber hose material, cut it to size, and pulled it over the old mounts. Just for looks.

I thought I would update this post as to the ride with koni yellows and performance springs. My car handles like a dream, very impressive cornering and stability at high speeds (80-90mph even). The ride is not at all to harsh at the factory koni settings. The orig springs and KYB shocks (age unknown) gave a bouncy ride. Highly recommended changes. as noted previosly, cutting the rear springs was required to give a level look to the car which has worked great.
