Fuel pump oem vs aftermarket?
Fuel pump oem vs aftermarket?
I need an electric fuel pump for my 82 spider. Can I use an aftermarket (cheaper than oem) or not and if so what would you recommend? There's a ton that will supposedly work online, but I want to do it right.
Thanks

I don't know if it's any good, but rock auto has a retech brand on clearance marked down from $75.00 to $12.00! It is the retech brand, you have to click on the box with the arrow to chose the close out one.

Thanks for the tip. It looks like the one that came out of it. For $13 I'll give it a shot and let all know how it goes. Thanks again

Have fun. I see they do not give any specs for it. Just because it LOOKs like the old one don't nean it's right. Carters list 2 pumps for 124 spiders that Look the same one is for EFI and the other for carby. One is 4x the price of the other.
You need minimum 190 litres per hour flow and 3.2 bar or about 44psi working pressure with one standard and one oversized spade terminals

The one at Autozone is part #E2182.It is an exact fit and psi spec, and costs $85.The one that wikkid shows is a great deal.I would question the $13 unit, but if it works and fits please let us know! I would love to have a spare.

Have you noted that the retech unit is a re-conditioned I.E. used pump that has been fixed up ?

I should have posted this too, but I didn't want to take business away from our fiat vendors. http://www.rockauto.com/RSS/vehiclefeed ... ml=trueThe
This will show you all of the clearance parts for a late spider. If you look up another year or car in their HTML catalog, (bottom right of their website), and get the carcode, you can replace the 1104512 in the link above and see parts for it. I did it for all of my cars and stocked up. I don't know what I was thinking when I ordered 14 Puralator filters. Should last a while.

Re: Fuel pump oem vs aftermarket?
If you click on the link supplied above by htchevyii, then click on the "more info' link, it clearly states Retech Remanufactured Automotive Products. I assume that is where the name comes from ??htchevyii wrote:It says new in the rock auto ad. I bought one for a spare and it looks new to me.
I note that Rock Auto are still stocking pumps by other brands at normal price. Your choice.

Re: Fuel pump oem vs aftermarket?
I looked at the pump that I bought, it actually says AFS, no Retech. the partnumber on the pump is e2182 which is a Airtex P/N. I think it is just reboxed as a private brand.

Re: Fuel pump oem vs aftermarket?
That is an airtex number, same as the one at Autozone(where I do commercial sales).Autozone or OReillys dont even take a core for that fuel pump,so do they even rebuild them? Rebuilt or not, good enough for me as a spare! Thanks again,Trey
