OK, let's not make this about decisions made by a company after Mitt was employed with them. Having money does not make one evil dispite the remarkably easy landscape that is to paint. Making a profit, competition, capitalism are not bad things to be dictated to by our Government. At the end of the day, if you are producing a typewriter in todays economy you are going to go out of business. The Fed Gov should not be involved in keeping a failing business in business. If a business can not offer a product the consumer wants at a price they will pay then they should go out of business. Does not matter how many jobs are saved. To pour private or Goverment money into a failing business that will not succeed is a waste of capital or even worse a waste of taxpayer dollars. Eventually a failing business will either succeed or fail and you can not fault those that invest with hope that they will succeed. After all, don't we all do that with our 401K plans hoping the capital will generate a return. This particular failing business that Baine invested in failed. Many businesses were saved by the restructuring done by Baine. For that we should all say thank you and move on! In any event, it is not the governments place to interfere.

. Again, Mark, you are correct. I believe the decisions and actions of Govermenent officials should be conducted in an ethical manner so that the decisions can stand the light of day. Details that may jeopardize national security or endanger the lives of people in or around the fast and furious program can be blacked out of documents if needed. I think the word I'm looking for is transparency. Sounds nice until something happens and the American people are left in the dark. Why, what is in the documents that could adversely affect the executive branch that we should not know about with a tranparent Gov. Yes... I fear there is something "nefarious". It does not serve my argument well. But, it does not serve the President well at all. The fact that the Bush admin. pulled the plug on an identical program in 2007 after finding out 500 weapons had crossed the border does not help. Under the fast and furious it is suspect that 1000 weapons crossed the border. I "suspect" there are memos that did reach people that are close to the president. Not saying the President had direct knowledge. I am saying the president "the person" would be adversly affected and therefore executive privilege was envoked. Again, the truth will come out eventually.

I think there is presently a great unstated undercurrent of disappointment and distrust in the country of the current POTUS, who has been an absolute disaster of a President. Even here in Lib Land Massachusetts, you can't imagine the number of leftists that I have spoken to who can't stand him and will vote against him in November. He is an odd mix of arrogance, petulance and incompetence. He lacks fundamental leadership skills and it became apparent, even to the American Left, early on. The media is now, as then, lieing about the situation, and I think we will be suprised by the extent of POTUS's loss in November. But probably not anywhere near a landslide. Wisconsin was the bellweather. Hopefully our experiment with failed Euro-style socialism is over in the US. Shouldn't be too difficult for Americans to look across the pond and see what lies in store for us if we keep on the current path.

Good idea. We certainly need to be careful when commenting on something as passionate and potentially explosive as politics and religion. I will say though that it seems odd to me (although I admit I am easily left in the dust when discussing American politics), that when considering that the US President himself actually has less power and authority over his people than the Canadian Prime Minister does over his people, what with the power of the senate etc, it seems odd to me that he be singled out as the root of so many of your problems.

The President is the head of a corrupted body which are presented in 2 parties democrat and republican both have
plenty of corruption running in them I'm not sure what the answer is to this problem but for the common man here in
America we seem to have less and less worth. There are so many directions this thread could go in and I can think
of huge list of issues to bring up but feel it's almost pointless to do so.

I agree with your comments but feel we have become more of a socialist state then a democracy in the past 15
years . Yes we have our freedoms but tightly controlled by laws and regulations, and if you don't comply they will
find a way to make you do so ...

yes, it's very Machiavellian, the way the gov't controls by creating dependency. They allow (or create) a problem to which only the gov't can offer a solution.
Of course there is always another choice. But that choice typically is a more difficult road, and fraught with obstacles.

And why do we single-out and blame the president himself? Because he's so quick to take credit when things go well!

I may be unusual in my conservatism, in that I believe EVERY president (and candidate / hopeful president) has the country's best interests at heart. And I think they do the best they can. I frequently disagree with a policy, or vote. But I believe they feel as passionately about it as I do. And so I cheer (and pray) for every president, whether from my party or not. Perhaps I'm naive.

Ron Paul may be an exception, should he ever be elected.
I find him to be much more interested in creating change simply for the sake of change than he is in looking at what would be best for the country.
He'd like to be vindicated as "right" more than he'd like to DO what is "right".
