Peanut butter

Post by simoboni »

So, perhaps I'm stating the obvious here but, months ago I got intrigued by this brit youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4f62OwctOBc, so tonight after installing my new/old side mirror I thought...let's give it a try!

Here is the picture of the side mirror before being shipped to me (thanks again Chris!)

and here is the same mirror installed on my car after being cleaned and...buttered :)

Still how to see how long it'll last, but it was certainly a cheap and effective solution to renew some faded black plastic!

It looks good and it will probably last till all the dogs in the neighborhood start to lick the mirror :D

Glad the mirror worked out for you, looks good!

When I first opened this all I saw was peanut butter and then that photo from my garage, was wondering what was going on till I read the rest of your post.

Thanks, and sorry for posting a pic w/o asking for permission! No intended connection between your garage and peanut butter :)

I don't care that you posted it... I figure anything I put on the internet is fair game. Might try this trick on my other car, the mirror is a bit faded.

Should it be unsalted peanut butter? Thought salt contributed to rust. Mostly kidding.

sorry guys, this all sounds like a good idea gone bad. i dont see anything to keep the oil from going rancid, critters deciding this is tasty, no UV stabilizers. I'll stick with silicone, thanks. did you see the u-tube video the other day of the bear licking the bugs off the girl's bumper and then decided to take a bite and tore a piece of the bumper off.

Don't think an insurance adjuster would believe the story w/o that video.

Been using this method on plastic for ages. Easy to apply and shines up instantly with absolutely NO effort and lasts as long as the normal colour restorers. No bears in my part of the world but the other wildlife seems to ignore it. :D
