explain this

Post by fiat218 »

theses are 2 individual brake disk pads
both are brand new, never been used
the fatter one i had purchase thu o'rielly auto parts
the thin one i got thru IAP
now they are the same pad as in measuring up them back to back/ the thin one has a little nib sticking out so in order for that to work it had to be ground off
some how i don't think the thin one is for a fiat

so why is one thicker then the other?
the thin one looked worn out

The rear pads are similar to the front only much thinner. I think that you have a set of fronts and a set of rears.

Yeup, I just finished swapping pads (trying green EBC's)(thanks Mark) and the one on the left is for the rear brakes and the other is for the fronts.

Hmm, could be a screw up.
The thin ones shown are for the rears. They have the tab that goes in the slot of the rear pistons.
The front brakes do not have tabs on the pads.
Do the pads you recieved for the fronts, new thin ones, have the tab?

Could just be a screw up if they sent all rears when you asked for rears and fronts... How close are the parts numbers? Numbers correct on the shipping sheet?
I'd give them a call and explain and send them back. I'm sure they would accomodate you. Or hope they would.
Perhaps an inconvenience, but I've screwd up before so I'll give the seller a chance to make it right.

if you put rear pads on the front, they won't last very long and make sure the locating pin doesn't sit on the edge of the piston

I have for years bought aftermarket pads that thick. Its good if you have thin rotor. still i've had to grind many of them down.

If they are not genuine Fiat stock, they may well be aftermarket from anywhere, or old salvaged backings relined as budget pads where they simply bonded on the front lining block rather than a rear lining block or vice versa.

The thick ones will simply not fit in the rear calliper and if the thins are put in the front A; they will not last & B; the piston seals may well distort and leak fluid.
