Original Radio

Post by RRoller123 »

Could someone post a picture of what the original 1980 radio from the factory looked like? I am trying to get something close looking, maybe original if they are out there at a reasonable price. Thanks.

These aren't the greatest pictures but it is all I have at the moment (I'm nowhere near my car right now). This is a Fiat North America original AM/FM Multiplex Stereo from 1979. There were other options, but this came as original equipment on my 1979. Please excuse the dirty car - I took the pictures when I was doing body work.

The face plate is not original. It had a vinyl textured plastic plate instead of the wood in the photos. I could easily be convinced to sell the stereo since I want to put in a CD/MP3 player.

Thanks for the pictures! If the original faceplate turns up I might be interested in purchasing it.

Cupholders?! I would die for those. Wonder if they can be retrofitted to my 71? I have already dumped two cups upside down by forgetting they were sitting on the console.

Supplyguy,
It's been a while since this has been shown, so you may not have seen it. My solution for a cup holder. There's a 2nd hole in it hidden by the seat back. (It's used most often as an armrest.)

$8.00 worth of wood, a little stain and polyeurathane, a couple hours in the shop and voila! a cup holder.

My in-dash cup holder is from a Nissan van. It was a rather simple install. Remove the lower wooden panel in the dash, trim off the mounting pins on the Nissan cup holder so the holder fits tightly into the center panel, remove glove box and install a support bracket screwed into the defroster and you're done. I took my time and it took a few hours start to finish.

The center armrest is a fantastic alternative since you won't have to modify or disassemble anything in the car...and you get an arm rest to boot! It is a great idea for any year Spider.
