1969 Spider - Buy It Now $55,000

Post by Exit98 »

Some time ago I posted about a 78 Spider sold at auction for $25,000.

Now we have a nearly perfect, major award winning 69 Spider with an Ebay buy it now at $55,000. Take a look:

Pretty incredible car. Can you spot anthing incorrect? Did the instruments in 69 have chrome surrounds? I only remember black.

What do you think this car would sell for at a major auction?

once again looking at pictures that dont show enough detail. looks like the brake fluid reservior is off a newer car. the seat belts look off a newer car. looks like the wingnuts are missing. dash wood looks very nice but very unstock. I thot 69s came with a clock. Yes, the pre 70s came with chrome bezels. Nice looking car. Would be shocked if he sold it at that price.

Covers on the head rests dont fit very well. Seats are not from that year. Reverse light is missing. And more Im sure. Wood is wrong. Even if the car was 100 percent perfect, it wouldnt be worth the asking price. I mean I wish it was, but its not. Not sure on the clock, my 70 didnt come with one. I saw that car a few years back when it was at BFI. I showed that guy a few things that were wrong back then. Some have been rectified. Its a very nice car in person.

It is a very nice looking car from the pics. Over priced... I think so but I'd venture to guess it will go for alot more than I'd ever pay for it, besides I suspect a Volumex in good condition could be had for those numbers.

I believe Andy's Spiders in Toronto does full/total resorations for about 20 G less. Or so he said a number of years ago when I was calling about parts.

Alright...let's compare to my very original (not restored) '69 that I bought from the original owner last year. No clock is correct as well as the chrome instrument surrounds. I do think the seats are correct style based on the number of pleats etc. but certainly were new based on the rest of the restoration. Seatbelts are similar to what I have with a Fiat emblem on the buckle but I can't be sure. The horns should be painted blue not polished aluminum and as already mentioned the car is missing the reverse light under the left bumper. Also, if this is a US version car there should be bumper over riders front and rear. I must say everything is verrrry shiny (if you like that sort of thing). That being said, I would value my car at $55,000 also (just move the decimal place one to the left).

Twincam, very early spiders had aluminum or aluminum colored horns. Ive seen them several times. I actually have some in the garage. Blue horns are on later cars, not sure which year they started. I didnt say the seats were wrong because of the pleats. They could have been reupholstered with a different number of pleats, and still be the right seats. Im pretty sure that I sold him the snorkle on the air cleaner. I looked again and Im also thinking the seatbelts are wrong for that year. I dont recall them plugging into each other like that. As I recall one side was like a flat j hook that simple hooked onto the other side. Never seen that set up on any other make of car before.

I had a guy offer me 10 k for my 70 4 years ago. I turned him down. i was trying to sell him my 68 at the time. I really didnt think my car was worth the money offered, but I have no intention of selling it ever.

Rey, I saw the registration, it is a 68 and originally from Europe (Holland to Spain to South okanagan one owner to son)
Needs shock towers replaced and inner fender/engine bay needs attention. He was asking $5000.00 CDN a year ago. Car is insured and driven in the summer only. I have a few more pics if interested.
