Re: Clay Bar
Love the clay bar. Takes all the grit out of the finish. I never would have guessed that clay would do that...cbrown1469 wrote:Hi all,
Just sharing with you.
I am always sceptical about all the different brands of detailing kit you can buy. But I have just relented, and bought the clay bar and clean wax with detail spray fom Maguiars.......... Brilliant!!!!

A clay bar for grit removal was an eye opener to me. It's really worth the extra time if you are going to do any buffing/polishing - otherwise, you are rubbing the grit into the finish!

Re: Clay Bar
Glad to know. I just bought a set. Although for now a polishing wax seems to have brought my original paint to life.

Not is you use it properly.wikkid wrote:A clay bar for grit removal was an eye opener to me. ... you are rubbing the grit into the finish!
First off it is only to be done on a just-washed car. What you are removing is not dirt but small stuff that otherwise sticks to the finish. Stuff you are not even aware of until its gone. Then wow!
I use the clay sold by Griot's Garage. They specify that one is to lubricate the surface with their one step spray cleaner. I find this works superbly -- the clay is soft so it grabs the micro grit and the lube prevent any scouring of the surface.
Yes, I know, rubbing your car's finish sounds weird and possibly destructive. It is not. It cleans like nothing else. And when you are done the car is clean like it has never been before. And there are no fresh swirls or any other signs of untoward wear of the finish.

Re: Clay Bar
I think I read Wikkid's comment differently: I understood him to mean that if you did not clay-bar before polishing, THEN you would be rubbing the grit into the surface. But the Clay-Bar alleviates that.DUCeditor wrote:Not is you use it properly.wikkid wrote:A clay bar for grit removal was an eye opener to me. ... you are rubbing the grit into the finish!

maybe I missed it?

Re: Clay Bar
Yep, Maytag got my meaning. I think we are all in agreement: use the clay bar to remove the micro-grit before using a buffer.
