What are the magazines that you all subscribe to?
Maybe this forum is all I need, but I'm curious what subscriptions you have (hard copy or electronic) that help you stay in the know for keeping your Fiat in tip top shape, shows, etc...

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
Lets see... Fine Woodworking, Fine Homebuilding, American Rifleman, WSJ, Boston Globe, Remodeling, American Philately, Linn's Stamp News.
And this forum for the Spider!!! <{:^) I have thought about subscribing to Road and Track, C&Driver, etc; but every time I read an issue I find there isn't enough in it for my interests. The internet has really obsoleted a lot of these Journals I think.

European mags, as I live over here;
Car, Evo, Auto Italia.
Plus a dozen or so I buy single issues from, many of 'classic' variety.

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
FLU has a Quarterly RICAMBI Magazine: http://www.fiatclubamerica.com/about-us/ricambi Unfortunately, IMHO, FIAT/Chrysler advertising dollars seem to have taken over most of it's content for promoting sales of the new 500, Abarth, and probably new Fiat and Chrysler models as they are introduced. Not a lot of technical content in the few issues I've received since joining. I think it is important to support FLU if you can, since they do promote the big annual Fiat Freak-Out and Other events. The fact is, print, short of The Free Atrigue Manuals and Factory Manuals, is no longer the way to get the "tips and tricks" that used to be in "Restorer" Mags of old.McFlash wrote:What are the magazines that you all subscribe to? ...
FLU does have a forum that can be helpful, http://fluforum.italiancarclub.com/ but a LOT LESS info than you will find here.

The problem is that very few people contribute content. Send Brett some material and he will print it.dantye wrote:FLU has a Quarterly RICAMBI Magazine: http://www.fiatclubamerica.com/about-us/ricambi Unfortunately, IMHO, FIAT/Chrysler advertising dollars seem to have taken over most of it's content for promoting sales of the new 500, Abarth, and probably new Fiat and Chrysler models as they are introduced. Re: Magazine Subscriptions
Been a car nut since birth. Starting at 10 or so I bought every Hot Rod mag, Rod & Custom, Car Craft mag on the rack. Remember when some of those were about 6" by 9"?
When I was about 12 or 13 I stumbled across some old Road & Tracks from the late 1950's in a used magazine store. That was it, European cars and Formula 1 from then on.
Been subscribing to R & T uninterrupted ever since. Its not the same any more of course, what is? but Peter Egan is a hoot. I should give it up but it would be like a divorce. Just flip through it now.
Always loved old cars too from day one. I subscribe to Hemmings Motor News, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports & Exotics. They are all OK, enough to keep me renewing at least for now.
My number 1 mag for the last 10 years or so is Sports Car Market Magazine. They cover all the auctions in the USA and Europe. Each issue spotlights 5 or 10 particular cars that were sold. The writing is excellent, they've got a good sense of humor. It is a big magazine, and very expensive. I look forward to each issue and don't put it down until I've read the last word. If you like Wayne Carini on Chasing Classic Cars you'll love this mag.

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
there are no magazines that supply the level of detail you get from this website and mirafiori. If internet access is an issue then you wont get there from here. I used to think i was pretty sharp on 124s until i started stalking around these 2 sites. Now i just feel like another shmuck playing around with my fiat under a shade tree.

Classic Motorsports and Sports & Exotic Cars. Subscribed to R&T from 1968 to early '90s when they stopped their excellent coverage of European motorsports.

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
I used to really like Classic Motorsports, but their content has gone almost 100% Brit cars.I have no interest.Hemmings Sport and Exotic always have Italian car content(this month Kevin Barnett is featured in a X1/9 buying guide).Very good magazine.I am down to it and R&T for the modern stuff.

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
I am subscribed to "FORZA" and "Motorcyclist" (though I don't think I'll renew that one. I miss Mitch Boehm. As much as Catterson is knowledgeable, he just doesn't have the "vision")
I occasionally subscribe to "Automobile".
that's it, auto / bike -wise.
But beyond that: Newsweek, Smithsonian, BH&G.

Re: Magazine Subscriptions
Craig has drawn our attention to the July issue of Hemmings S&E for the X1/9 comparison. I subscribe to this, but there's no comparison to R&T, C&D and other mags from yesteryear.Exit98 wrote:... Been subscribing to R & T uninterrupted ever since. Its not the same any more of course, what is?
For comparison, I've got the August, 1985 issue of R&T, also comparing the X to the MR2 and four other two-seaters. The depth of the S&E article is laughable compared to R&T. In addition, there's a ten-page article on the specifics of mid-engine layouts, with stop-action photos of all six comparison cars in various phases of cornering, complete with graphs comparing steering angle vs. lateral acceleration, etc.
But Wait! There's More! The R&T is twice the size of S&E, with these articles:
Alfa GTV/6 vs. GTV twin turbo
Audi 5000S test
VW Golf test
Portugal and San Marino GP coverage
Long Beach CART coverage
Geneva Auto Show
long-term Cherokee update
Honda City impression
... plus 9 columns from legendary automotive writers
The X1/9 fared well, but their choice was the FWD Civic CRX Si.
I read The Economist cover-to-cover every week. Better coverage of US news than our domestic mags.
