New Wiring Diagrams Posted

Post by bradartigue »

Good afternoon,

Today I posted a new wiring diagram for the 1978 Spider. This continues the reproduction of wiring diagrams into CAD drawings. If you have not used them already I also have updated the 1981-1982 diagrams, which include the fuel injection system, and the 1969-1973 diagrams, which include the component lists. You can also link there to my other publications on these wonderful cars.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (http://www.adobe.com) to view and print these files. Acrobat Reader is available for just about every computer/operating system on the market. When printing to your printer always select "scale to printer margins" to get the biggest print size. I use an Epson R1800 13x19" printer and find the diagrams are great at that size and, if you have access to one, are even better on D size (24x36) printers. If you do not have a large format printer you can take it to Kinko's or contact me for a printed 13x19 set (also includes an 8.5x11 set) for $50, postage paid.

As a reminder to those unfamiliar with FIAT wiring diagrams, they aren't exactly perfect. For example, your 1978 may be a late model 78, which had a lot of 1979 parts and some of the electrics. In general (applies to all model years) you may not even have the exact same wiring colors as specified by FIAT. There was some...artistic creativity...during assembly. Regardless the diagrams I produced at least represent the originals faithfully but - more importantly - can be scaled to any size and printed with no loss of clarity.

The very early diagrams were simply a spaghetti bowl of lines and therefore are also split into separate drawings per color. In other words, in the 1969-73 diagrams there is a master diagram and then subsequent diagrams for each wire color with all others excluded. I've found this useful in my 1970 Spider project.

If you find an error or wish to comment please email me brad@artigue.com at your convenience.

Thanks,

Brad

PS - I've been asked before what the next wiring diagrams will be. I am planning to follow up with the 79-80 diagram as it is the "next most" requested, then filling in the remaining years in the 1970's. It is unlikely that I will produce diagrams for the Pininfarina Spiders as they closely resemble the 81/82 diagram except for the trunk release controls.

Brad,

Thousand coodo's to you. as soon as i saw the post, i ran out and grabbed a copy :!:

These things are portable, printable, and shareable. very very handy for a club member when helping out a friend, or just for my own use with the wife's Spider.

Looking forward to the '79-80 version on accounta that's my baby.... :P

I LOVE the set for the early cars that you've done. I'm so deep into rewiring that I may
take the PDFs into a tattoo parlor and simply have them etched on me permanently :)

Thanks SO much for doing this!

My only request, would be to have a breakdown of systems in there that are tied to the
different fuses. I've traced most of mine, but a consolidated chart would be an immense
time saver and 'one stop' shopping for diving into the electricals

I do miss the pretty posterized fiat pictures from the first one though. LOL

As always, you have done a remarkable job and justly deserve all the praise!

Thanks - I actually removed the posterized pictures because I ran out of model years to steal them from. That was problem "A", problem "B" being they added a lot of bulk to the PDF. So they had to go. I also knocked out a whole page in each of them that just had a picture and some other information, its all now on the contents page.

Gregg if you're using the early set then go back online and download a new copy. I was told that they were missing the 12v interlinks in the fusebox and sure enough they were. The document I am uploading right now has them in there.

Brad, I want to thank you for the info you have compiled. I actually found you site the on wednesday. I'd seen your restoration page on the yellow Fiat, but never looked into any of the tech stuff you put together. As a new Fiat owner, with limited mechanical ability, I'm positive that your maintainance and performance upgrade maunal will save me hours of figuring stuff out, and save thsoe "that know" the time of xplaining stuff to me, and who knows how much $ from me screwing stuff up and having to fix/replace stuff.
Thanks again!
