Boot cover and window vent latches

Post by simoboni »

Hi,

Just bought my 81 Spider, and I figured I should start with the easy stuff, fixing some small cosmetics issue. Two things I'm missing are the boot cover and the windows vent latches. I found a matching beige boot on eBay, but the seller said it's missing the mounting hardware on one side. Does anybody has experience with this? The seller just said "get it from you old boot" but I don't have one :).
Second question (should I open another thread? If yes, sorry!) about the latches. Would you recommend to replace them, or since they are just glued to the glass it is a waste of time?

Thanks!
Simone

Hi! You can do a search here on the forum regarding the window latches. They are notorious for falling off of the windows, and there is a very large volume of discussion about which adhesives are best to put them back on. The general concensus after you repair them is is to leave them unlatched unless you need them to seal out rain etc.

Did what you said, glued w/ two-part epoxy and so far so good (keeping them unlatched most of the time, though). Thanks for the tip!

Or, you can do as I have and simply leave them off.

I presume you are talking about the blastic insert for inside the top boot, that clips onto the folded top frame each side of the car ? If so, then yes, they are left and right handed. Well, mine are 1980, built late 79.
