68 124 Sport coupe. How rare? Value?
Hi guys I have the chance to get a 1968 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe that has been upgraded with the drivetrain from a Spider including twin carbs. How rare are there? Value?

They are desirerable. There was a 68 here about a year ago. It was going for 2,300. I would have picked it up if I had the spare cash. It was original and ran.

Thought they might go for more. I like the fact it has been upgraded.

They are quite rare, they rusted out quicker than the Spiders for some reason. I have a 69 I am trying to get running. It has the original engine and drive train a 4 speed 1438 cc. It says manuf date was in 68 so I imagine this is actually a later model 68 but registered as a 69.
From the pics you have posted it looks real nice. Upgraded wheels for sure. Prob a 5 speed? These cars handle incredibly well.

this one started pretty low bid and is now 8k. and it has been repainted from its original color from what I can see. But it looks very nice.

Warbird it is not uncommon for say a early 71 to have a manufacture date of 1970. So if yours is a 69 having a manufacture date of 68 is a common thing. Does yours have a torque tube? Even if it did it could be an early 69. If no torque tube I would assume it is a 69. But almost anything is possible.

Re: 68 124 Sport coupe. How rare? Value?
In general a Coupe is worth much more than a similar year Spider by a factor to 2 to 3. They are very rare as they tended to be used like a family car year round and as a result they disappeared a long time ago.
If you can buy it do it. If it isn't a clam (rusted out bondo mobile) you can sell it to any number of folks the moment you want to. If you pass on it put some of us in touch with the owner.
The image shown has many unfortunate adjustments but nothing that can't be fixed with some money.
Buy it and enjoy it.

I would agree that the early coupes are more valuable then the same year spider. But I dont feel that to be the case for the later coupes.

I looked at it today. Some cancer for sure in the wheel well areas and some surface rust here and there. Otherwise seems to be in very good shape so I've borrowed the $$ and tomorrow it will be mine!!! It's a one owner too with a record book 8 inches thick! I have not decided if I will be able to keep it yet or not but couldn't pass it up!!!

Re: 68 124 Sport coupe. How rare? Value?
Early examples with the torque-tube are the real collectors items...having said that the value all depends on condition and "originality". I saw a '68 go for nearly $10K (AUS). But that model was an immaculate example with 1 owner low mileage with books and history.

Re: 68 124 Sport coupe. How rare? Value?
Well I got it from the original owners. I have a 9 inch thick book of records and the original title. I haven't looked through the book yet. the drivetrain is from a 74 Spider. It still has the torque tube,it's not perfect as I have said but I think it's a really great find and I would consider selling it.

I have not seen one of these on the road up here for probably 35 years. Great looking cars!

Theres a beautiful blue one that Ive seen several times up on Mullholland road, just east of Beverly hills. An older guy is always driving it. Its always going in the opposite direction so I have never been able to stop and talk to him.
