Removing the sticker type stripes on the turbo model

Post by giuliot60 »

Does anyone know how to safely remove the sticker-type stripes (pin-stripes) without damaging the paint? It is cracked in spots and I can get some of it off rather easily with my fingernail, but it would take forever doing it that way.

Thanks.

Heat helps remove decals easier, take a blow dryer (or heat gun if your careful) & heat up an area (hot to the touch but not burning) & usually you can pull a length of the decal off, pull slowly & directly 90* from the surface...in cases of removing decals going slower is faster (larger pieces) plus with the heat alot of the glue may come off with the decal, the remainder of the glue can be removed with "Goof-Off or Goo-Gone" you can get at most grocery or hardware stores.

Hope this helps....patience is your friend in this endevor

Thanks Don.

That makes sense. I do that with masking tape after I'm done painting in my house. You don't think the Goo-off will damage the paint? I guess it's turpentine based, so probably not.

No the goof-off will not damage the paint, auto paint is catalized, I work in a sign shop & use it all the time.

Heck we even use easy-off oven cleaner on auto paint to remove hand painted lettering (enamel) & it doesn't hurt the paint other than taking off shine/wax

FWIW, used to know a couple who owned a furniture / interior decor shop. She always had Eucalyptus oil to remove sticky residue from labels and price tags etc off furniture and ornaments etc so I assume it was not harmful to laquered/varnished and polished furniture. You can probably buy it at a Pharmacy / Aromatherapy store.
