thinking about them is okay, but installing them in your Spider is a bad idea

many schools of thought on spark plugs however, from what i have read and seen here on the forum I agree with Mark. Here's what I used and they seem fine so far

I've always used regular NGK BPR5ES p/n:7734

Work fine for me.

In fact if you go to that thread, and then to the Guy Croft thread link in one of the posts, you'll find a design engineer for Champion recommending fine-wire iridium plugs.

interesting :? I say do what makes you happy. I find with spark plugs there is always the plug of the moment  I am only 41 however, since I started working on motorcycles and more recently cars there have been too many changes in the spark plug recommendation arena. Remember the V gap, then gold, platinum, iridium etc etc etc  I will never have the amount of knowledge needed to give professional advice on these cars however, I love this forum for being able to share ideas and experiences

best of luck

I'm basing my opinion on personal experience. I have found those plugs do not work well with the limitations of the Spider ignition system. And they're too damn expensive

If the engine has a conventional distributor I can see where a conventional copper spark plug would be the way to go. But what spark plug would be ideal if using the Computronix ignition system? Wouldn't this need a spark plug that is more "efficient?" Just asking .... :?:

No expert here, but a spark plug needs to spark. The fancy materials just make it last longer. That said, things like heat range and gap matter, but I would bet if you objectively dyno tested an engine with various plugs the differences would me miniscule.

Iridium plugs have a very fine electrode, and they need the iridium for high heat resistance; with a less exotic metal the thin electrode would simply melt. And because of the fine electrode, gap simply doesn't matter. I run them in my Fulvia--conventional distributor with Pertonix module and matching coil--and I find they foul far less than the NGK D7EAs I used to run.
