Alvon Elrod

Post by Zippy »

Our friend and fellow Fiat Spider owner Alvon Elrod is on a cross country bicycle trip to raise awareness of Veterans issues, here and abroad. If you are in Nebraska or points east, they may be headed to a city near you. They need your support. Please check out their website and the map. http://www.sea2sea.org/ Be a Shepherd, Marshal, Cyclist or Participant

Yep. They are making great progress. But they need help. They are looking for Shepherds and Marshals to meet them along the way. If you have friends or relatives that can help along the way, see if you can hook them up.

If anyone thinks they can help, post this message on any other boards you may belong to. I have already posted it on the Facebook Fiat Wall.

They made it!

Despite the terrific storm and awful temps here recently, Alvon and his compatriots arrived in Washington on schedule. DC Fiats Richard and Gina Ridge hosted a small get-together for Alvon and Maureen, where they regaled us with tales of their adventure. I was particularly touched by his stories of all the folks who they met, rode with, ate with and stayed with during their cross-country tour. A great evening, accentuated with Alvon's unique, low-key style. El Presidente's Abarth was given a thorough thrashing by all who wished to test the neighbors noise tolerance.

This epic adventure is not the "end of the ride" for this organization. Shorter rides are planned for other parts of the US and Britain, and the Web site http://www.sea2sea.org/ remains open for donations to the cause; improving the lives of those who've sacrificed since 9/11.

I'm not sure which is the greater accomplishment, this bike run or the 7-8000 mile cross country and here and there trip he and Maureen made in the Spider! Both are amazing.
But then he's still just a kid.
Way to go Ace. It'll be great to see you when you get back home.

Finally, a chance to check in on friends here at FS.com after 2 1/2 months of being off on a bicycle. Thanks for all the kind words, everyone, and especially to those folks that we saw along the way. It feels like stepping out of a dream to be back here again. And it was a Dream of a Lifetime. Chase your dreams, everyone. You'll never regret it.

Looking forward to getting back home next week and taking the old spider out for a ride. Will hook up with some of you SoCal people on the next gathering. Take care,

Alvon

Are we going to see you in the Tour-d- France next year?? Amazing thing you and your team just did.
