How best to polish aluminum wheels?

Post by AZ79 »

I've had five of these slotted aluminum mags laying around for a few years but never bothered with them. They have an almost whitish patina to them from years of cooking in the AZ sun.
Today I took a few small dremel polishing wheels to one of them with some red polish and was suprised to see it came out bright and shiny. But I need a better solution them a dremel tool, lol. What would you recommend to shine these suckers up?

Got air tools and power tools? Come to http://www.highwayshine.com/. They sell kit for polishing rims. Or, if you've already have some material, can order individual product.

I ended up using a 4 1/2" polishing wheel mounted to a drill and a tube of HF red polish.
I first used comet and a red 3M pad to wash it up as much as possible before polishing.
It took me a half-hour to do this one today-

Now I just need to find lug bolts and center caps for them! :)

Oh, and this is what they'll be replacing:

And here's what they might look like on the car. These are US Indy mags on my former '72 Fiat. This picture was taken in '72. This is the only car I ever regret selling...but it couldn't hold a car seat and enough groceries for a growing family.

Ha! I've been thinking of what a car seat might look like in the car, for my five year-old daughter, but I just can't bring myself to do it
