Carlisle and the G-8 Summit

Post by jfrawley »

For those of you that may be thinking of taking Rt 15 from Maryland to Carlisle, PA this weekend BEWARE. The G-8 summit will be taking place this weekend at Camp David, which is pretty close to Rt 15. Because of that, we believe the State Police will be closing Rt 15 in both directions near Thurmont, MD for most of the weekend. Details are not available yet but we think that's what will happen. If you're coming from the South, take I-270 north to Frederick, MD then I-70 north to Hagerstown, MD and the I-81 north to Carlisle. Get off onto Rt 34 and follow it north to the fairgrounds. It might add 10-15 minutes to the trip, but you do not want to get caught in that traffic if they do close Rt 15.

Looks like Rt 15 will not be closed unless something very bad happens. Here's what the State Highway folks are saying:

"Rt. 77 will be closed from Pryor Road on the east side to Tower Road on the west side of the county from approximately 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 18th, until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19th. Catoctin Hollow Road will also be closed at the Cunningham Falls State Park lake area entrance. These are the only state roads expected to be closed during the event. Motorists should be aware of heavier than normal traffic possibilities from Frederick to Thurmont along the Rt. 15 corridor. Extra law enforcement and SHA personnel will be on patrol to address traffic issues and ensure traffic continues to move
as expeditiously as possible through the area."
