Re: Luggage Rack
Ok folks, taking the plunge.......where is the best place to get one then and what brand seems to be most popular?
Re: Luggage Rack
Mine had one on it when I got it. It was very tarnished and dull and I did not want to pay what it would cost to have it re-chromed. I thought about keeping it anyway and strapping a vintage suitcase on it to take to car shows. But the more I looked at it, I too felt it took away from the clean lines of the car. I covered two of the holes with Italia flag plaques and plugged the other two with black plastic plugs.

Re: Luggage Rack
Mine too came with a rack that I removed (personal preference) to fill the holes left behind I got some small carriage bolts, filed the heads smooth, painted them satin black & installed with rubber washers under them to seal. Works great...looks pretty good
Rack or not? Personal preference, I'm going bumperless w/ rotas for a mod look & like the look with the clean trunk. For a stock Spider I like the look of the rack.

Re: Luggage Rack
When I got one of my cars, it had a luggage rack. Took it off because I like the look without, and because we have other cars for bringing big items home. We used blank plastic plugs for a temporary solution.
If anyone needs a rack, I have four in very nice (but used) condition. Two different styles.

To my eyes you have hit the key point DocG. With the bumpers on the rack adds to the car, giving it a classic 'GT' look. Without the bumpers the car takes on the flavor of a hot-spirited back-road burner and then the simplicity of the bare trunk lid hits the mark.DocGraphics wrote: Rack or not? This, btw, is one of the things I love about the Spider. Both its appearance and its capability make it a wonderful car for all sorts of motoring pleasures. My personal need for speed is most often satisfied on two wheels -- Italian wheels! -- Ducatis. (A classic `93 900SS and a newer, but older appearing, 2007 GT1000 Sport Classic.) My Spider is used for joyous, sun-drenched, driving on The Monadnock Area's great back roads -- driven at a brisk but by no means "fast" pace. And yes, my wife Jan and I do sometimes like to bring along that picnic basket!

Italian motorcycles. An Italian car. An Italian wife. What more could a man desire?
