what to do about inside of oil pan?

Post by ylbill »

Not sure if I should be posting here or "Engine"? I gave a friend of mine my dented oil pan and he fixed the dents, but he also sand blasted the outside AND INSIDE. Now I'm wondering what to do about the inside of the oil pan? Any suggestions anyone? Thanks

I don't think that you need to do anything to it except make sure all the sand is gone. The oil will keep it from rusting, most internal engine parts are bare metal. I'd be more concerned about the paint comming off.

paint the outside and install it
leave the inside alone

Clean out all the left over sand inside, that's it.

You might want to do a leak test before installing it just to make sure the sand blasting did not damage the fit of the plug.
