tips and tricks for not losing all my brake fluid on rebuild
searching came up short.... i am sure it is my wording.... getting ready to rebuild all four calipers and replace the soft lines ... was hoping to get a tip on how not to let every drop of fluid drip out during the work... really want to pull all of them at the same time as i will be painting them also..... thanks for any help.... Matt

why save old fluid that is contaminated? You really should flush the whole system and get clean, new fluid in the system

See Mark's comments on bleeding the master cylinder in place. Other than that it should be the same old song and dance.

I'm in the process of changing out the rear differential and axle. The fluid is new (ish) so I took those little black rubber caps that go over the bleeded screws and popped those over the ends of the hard lines. Seems to be working so far.
I replaced the fluid last fall after adding the braided steel lines. The fluid should be just fine I'd be thinking.

Most new car mfgs now recoginize the benefits of replacing brake fluid on a regular basis. It's in most newer cars' maintenance schedules. Brake fluid gets contaminated with moisture, drastically lowering the boiling point and causing corrosion in lines, calipers etc. If you're doing brake work, flush the old stuff out and put in new fluid

When bleeding the rear breaks, make sure the axle is supported and not hanging down. If it is not supported, the rear compensator valve will close and you can't bleed the rear breaks.

pre-fill the MC and calipers before connecting the brake lines. bleed the backs first. When i did mine, i didnt worry about old fluid in the brake lines. I just bled til i was seeing clean clear fluid

If your brake fluid is gold then replace it with ATE Super Blue. When each brake is bled and the fluid coming out is solid blue you know you have all new fluid. If your brake fluid is already Super Blue then use ATE Typ 200. Same as above, except bleed for gold and not blue.

10mm flare wrench on the hard line fitting and a 17mm on the soft line fitting. As mentioned above, I picked up a tip here where you tighten the fitting a tad and then undo.
