Rockers

Are the rocker panels welded on? I see that there are screws on the bottom. Mine are shot and I'm just wondering what it's going to take to repair.

I removed mine for a 1969 Spider, there where no welds. Don't think any year had them welded on.

Well...30 years of rust proves to be problems. The front and back of the passengers rocker is still hung up and I can't seem to find a screw holding them in or anything? Didn't even get to the drivers side.

Don't remember the details but I think on the back end of the rocker there is a stud that is tack welded to the rocker, the nut that is attached to it might be covered with undercoating. Not sure but I don't think there is anything like that on the front end.

That does seem like what it could be. there is quite a bit of undercoating in there. I'm wondering if the po tack welded the front too from previous front end damage....guess I have my work cut out for me

There should be tack welded tabs/ears at the front and rear of the rocker panel, with sheet metal screws as the attachment mechanism. I believe thare are also screws under the door sill trim/stainless piece. need to remove door rubber at the door opening along the sill, remove the stainless sill, then you can see the attachment screws for the rocker on the top of the rocker.

Does anyone have any information on what the best replacement is?

Should I go with the steel or the plastic?

I'd recommend fiberglass. They do not rust, much more durable than plastic.
