Warped Trunk Panels RESOLVED

Post by 4uall »

I have a 1980 Fi 2000 and was curious if anyone had the measurements so that I may make my own replacements? I was thinking I may use cedar to make it smell nice as well as look clean.

Here is what I am currently dealing with

Here is somewhat of an idea of what I would like

your panels dont look that bad. i would use them for a pattern and leave it a hair big and sand the edge to fit.

I actually tried to make templates using them however, I cannot even flatten them out(without them breaking). I will probably try with some cardboard or even the covering carpet tomorrow

I used the existing warped piece that I had (tank side only), card board templates for the curves & edges & a bit of measuring & made a pattern to replace my trunk pieces (bigger though to reach all the way to the edges) & cut the new piece out of 1/4 plywood.
I cut it as 1 piece then cut it apart at the seam so the seam & the grain all line up then finished it w/ left over deck stain on both sides.
I used the original brace under the permanent piece & bent up some Z-clips out of sheet metal so the removable piece supports on the other in the middle kinda like the original.

sharing some embarassment  well I have to stop coming up with ideas in the wee hours of the morning, or when I am tired. This whole time I could have made a template from the perfectly fitted felt liner I had in the trunk (forgot I had put it away). Regardless the stores are closed today for Easter Monday  so it will have to wait a little longer. Either way you know photos will be coming.

Trunk liner pattern...smart!

I started with only the piece over the gas tank & then a lot of patterning & measuring.
Good luck & please post your results.
