So the '79 is totally stripped and waiting for a vintage race car conversion. Until I move into my new house (with a real garage - yeah!!) I am not doing anymore work on it.
However, I am working on my '82 I purchased last fall. The PO did a bunch of engine work and after sitting 3 months in a storage unit - it fired up on the first turn of the key. Gotta love FI ! The body looks terrible, what I thought were solid floors have holes, and there is a bad oil leak on the front pass. side of the engine. Also, have a whine at about 30mph - haven't sorted that out yet.
Good news - I have a newly rebuilt trans, a motor I just got back from Apex - still needs some assembly and head work to be done - but it will be ferocious when I am done! Right now just want to get the interior sorted, the body painted, and the top on it so I can drive it this summer. Then in the fall out comes the motor/trans and will have a nice car for next summer.
So I started with the door panels:
Had the rad. out of the '79 boiled and painted and did the fan assembly myself:
The top frame was completely disassembled and painted and the rear clamp was welded, and painted and the back strip was recovered in new black vinyl:
THe armrests were painted black with the trim piece painted white:
Have to put the windows back in and then take it to someone to do the top. Anyone know someone in the Milwaukee, WI area that can do that? Besides MAACO, anyone in the area to do a basic Paint job?
Wish me luck!
