Out Of Hibernation

Post by Italchic »

Today the 124 comes out of winter storage! After a month in my garage to get all things in order the insurance goes back on May 1st. Then its "to the streets".

Mine will be out in two weeks time, I hope.
Lots of salt & dust on the roads after winter, need a rainy day or two to flush it off :?

Thanks for the reminder. In all my prepping I had forgotten to call the insurance people. Hopefully, have her out tonight

Must be that time of the year....
Just came in from the garage. It runs well enough for the moment, all the fluids warmed up nicely, just a bit of fine tuning after swapping out the carb. Now for state inspection. At least it's emissions exempt! :D

Well after five months it was a little reluctant to start but it did finally fire up. Drove it home let it sit for a bit while I cut the lawn, just came back from a short drive with the top still up (still a bit chilly here in NE OH). All and all not bad.

I put the insurance on mine last week and got one day in before it snowed again...bummer. Had it out a couple of times and noticed a vibration in the drive line at 50 + mph. Had a weather day at work this afternoon so put the rear of the car up on stands. Had a drip out of the rear diff plate. The bolts were a bit loose, tightened. Turned the drive shaft 180 deg to see if that will take the vibration out... U joints are good. I put a wrench on all the rear suspension nuts and bolts and checked, all good. Jacked the front up and did the same I found... exhaust pipe support bolts a tad loose, transmission mounts bolts and nut a tad loose, the front sway bar nuts a bit loose (put a 1" on last fall). I basically gave everything I could a turn and now feel better about things under the car.
Now when or if spring arrives I might be able to get out again.

Still needs a lot of body work, but these cars sure draw the looks!

The more I look at this picture, I think my next step is pushing the bumpers in and getting new mirrors! Those things are terrible looking! hah

My mirrors started out exactly as yours; and I chose to paint them, but there are many alternatives. I too haven't figured out what to do about the bumpers yet!.... Not sure if I can pull them here in Mass and pass safety Inspection. Lots of people install the older style chrome bumpers, and some install the individual bumper pods as well, both look a lot better than our heavy bar stock type, save some weight too, but offer essentially no collision protection.

Painting them silver seems to help! What I would really like to get is some chrome circle mirrors. My brothers Triumph has them and I like the look of them.

I thought about doing the drilling of the shocks like people do and then pinning the bumpers in place. But I still have a lot of body work to do before I do anything like that I guess lol

Those chrome circular mirrors are really nice and available new and used around the Forum and from the regular suppliers!

I'm assuming that's what I will do once I get everything else in order.
I wish I had the skills to do body work on my own because all four wheel well arches need work, and the front end also does.
