Psgr Rear Lower Spring Perch

Post by fiarless »

Tracing a rear end suspension knock, I noticed that shock was disconnected from axle. After several inquiries, I'm informed that the nesting ring had failed (termed lower spring perch). I thought that I'd purchase the part, cut off the old and weld in the new, no? Apparently Fiat didn't offer a replacement nor after marketeers. Suggested solutions are..1) Fabricate,.2)Purchase a new /used rear end or..3) Locate someone stocking old parts willing to destroy an axle for the perch. Anyone out there w/ similar problem and solution?
Thank you!

can you post a pic? that seems a strange failure, which is probably why Fiat made no replacement parts.
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

What year is your car? Early and late ones attach the shock differently. The late ones were not that strong, so it would not take that much rust to kill one. I would think one could easily fabricate something.

Pics would be helpful.

It's only old to those who are able to work on thier cars often. Less than a month and I doubt this problem has been resolved. So, hows it going fairless?

Whats fairless? Sorry I read it wrong. After I made my first post I read your join date thinking it was the posting date. So is it an early or late rear end. Someone should be able to cut the part off a damaged rear end. I have two early ones, but they are both good. Looking at your car its a late rear end I guess.

Thanks for all of your comments. After some searching and inquiries, I located a polite gentleman in Alabama who found in his collection a suitable Fiat and removed the axle housing and UPS'd it promptly. Apparently the empty housing qualifies for that shipping. We're scheduled to swap out the components and reassemble on Monday. I also obtained a rebuild kit for the differential to address any problems on that end. Considering the severe deterioration on the oringinal perch i'm pleased at the shape of the replacement. I'll take photos and keep you posted. Thanks again. For those of you familiar with the site's protoculs, is it appropriate to mention any of the commercial entities with whom we've worked on these matters?
