I have the good ol' seatback lean towards the middle. The other day I pushed on my shoulders to raise my butt up in order to dig my wallet out. this made the lean unbearable. I got out and yanked and pulled until it was somewhat presentable, but I have to do something with it now, it's just too annoying.
Will it be easier to pull the seat cover off (BTDT) and repair it (weld some bracing to it?) or would it be easier to buy someone's used and nonbroken back frame?
seatback replace or repair
Re: seatback replace or repair
If you replaced the seatback, you would probably recover it with the old cover, and whats to keep the newer seatback from havin the same problem? Id say pull off that headrest and seatcover and looksee!
Re: seatback replace or repair
all of the late seats eventually break, so finding a good one is darn near impossible. I vote to pull off the cover and repair your own
Re: seatback replace or repair
so how's the best way to go about fixing it. weld a rod? If you've done this before, let me know people... If i remember correctly from when I had it apart before there is curl to the edge of the frame and this curl is what cracks and then lets the flat frame bend. I would imagine that a small rod welded right into that curl/bend would strengthen it.
Re: seatback replace or repair
we've usually welded in some braces to strengthen it otherwise it just cracks next to the welds
Help,rusty seats
Im replacing the vinyl on my seats and ran into a couple of issues. There is rust inside the seat bottoms and on the seat pad. I intend to sand blast and paint the seat bottom. But what do I do about the rust on the pad? I tried to scrape it off and that doesn't work. I don't want to ruin the pad. [img][/img]
The wire frame in the seat bottom is rusty and missing a tab that secures to the seat bottom frame. Can I buy a new one or do I have to make it myself? [img][/img]
I can't figure how to take apart the adjusting handle without breaking it. Help!

I also need to replace the plastic that goes inside the bracing for the seat supports. And, how would they go back on?

Should I try to clean up the springs from rust in the seat and paint them or buy new ones and where do I get them?
