Well time moves on in life and on this forum ! – we can start doing updates to this thread.adrians wrote:General Manager of IT for a large Australian Infrastructure company ( owns the Australian Ports & Rail )
23 years with the business, new management have decided I'm not required so I'll be made redundant in July. Yipee ! – more time to work on the 4 Fiats
I was made redundant in July 2011 as predicted, however got a new job 6 weeks later working for a Hong Kong based Ports (stevedoring) company, opening new container terminals here in Australia. IT Systems and Business Processes as well as equipment and process automation. Hard demanding work, however very rewarding ! !

I am a "retired" VP Mfg in electronics, was involved in quite a few startups in the late 70's, through the 80's and 90's, as a principal and consultant, when the money flowed like wine . Man those days are long gone. <{:^) Since 2001 have been a custom cabinetmaker, always loved woodworking, used to restore old boats and houses, now get paid to do it. Great fun! Texas Army National Guard. I work in the 36th Infantry Division Headquarters in Austin, TX. 20th year of service. In my weekend warrior days I worked as a mine maintenance electrician in the copper mines of Arizona. Now I just go where the Guard wants me from year to year. Electrical maintenance is what I'll probably fall back on eventually..
I just sat and read through this whole thread. I commend you guys for some very interesting career paths.

Re: Your Day Job:
Wow this sure has generated a lot of replies.
I have been employed as an aircraft electronic tech for the past 46 years. Troubleshooting electrical, navigation and communication systems in the aircraft. Bench repair of units to component level and return to service. Also designing new instrument panels and interface wiring harnesses for general aviation aircraft. Lots of fun!!
I am able to use many of these skills on my Fiats.

Re: Your Day Job:
I work at Ft. Bragg, designing training. it's pretty mundane, really. But my real job is being a Dad when I'm home to my sons and two "girls"- a cat and dog. I've been a "weekend warrior" forever... going where ever our Uncle wants to send me.

Re: Your Day Job:
After 35 years in the teaching game, the opportunity recently arose to accept a redundency package and move into semi-retirement. Since then, I've worked as an Occupational Health and Safety consultant to Educational Institutions and more recently assisting a mate with his Swimming Pool Maintenance company. I never thought I'd end up as a 'Pool Boy'
My mate believes I have the coolest Pool Maintenance vehicle in the country.
Perhaps I should put a tow bar on the Spider

Re: Your Day Job:
Our State of Victoria has recently introduced a new Classic Car registration scheme for vehicles over 25 years old. Members of a recognised car club can take advantage of the system which allows you to use your classic car for 90 days a year for 25% of the cost of normal annual registration.
The one big drawback is you must display the issued special number plates that indicate that you are part of the scheme.
For a saving of $400 a year, SPYDUH now sports the number 05727H and instead of hanging them up in the shed the SPYDUH plates adorn the C30 T5.

Re: Your Day Job:
Curly,
Congratulations on reaching "semi-retirement". I greatly enjoy mine.
If I read your post correctly, Victorians pay $A 1600 per year ($US 1691) in registration fees for a regular-size, non-commercial-use auto?

Re: Your Day Job:
The trailer has an old set of Leyland Mini wheels on it , and the tail lights are Chinese general purpose stuff from an auto accessories shop. They do look a little like Fiat items though.
The cost to register a car in rural Victoria is about $550 a year - more expensive in the metropolitan areas. The cost of the Classic Car 90-day scheme is about $120 a year.

Re: Your Day Job:
Hello all. This site is awesome! Don't know how I'd get parts and advice without searching here first. I'm a biologist at a pharmaceutical company studying Alzheimer's disease. I also served as a an electronics tech in the USAF in a previous life. Comes in handy with wiring issues. Any "Who" fans get my screen name? Just wondering....
