Grand Prix The killer years

We were blessed with a new tv network called the Velocity channel a while back.They have been running a show called Grand Prix,the killer years.It is freakin' amazing.I am a huge F1 fan,but the 60's were before my time.The lack of safety,and dis regard for the lives of drivers is amazing.There was old viseo of guys burning in the cars ,while no one was nearby.The track workers didnt have fire extiguishers.Injured drivers were taken to hospitals,sometime long distances,in spectator cars.Graham Hill had 2 shattered legs,and the ambulance driver (U.S. Grand Prix) took him to a closed hospital! Jackie Stewart sat trapped in a car,waiting for it to burn, for 30 min.until other drivers shut off their cars and came to his aid.They borrowed a wrench from spectators to take the wheel off and free him.There were shots of a driver trying to free a burning driver from a upside down car.No one would help.It is a amazing show,and I was so unaware of how bad it was and how much better it is now.Jackie Stewart stated that in the 60's, 2 out of every 3 F1 drivers would die in their cars.Pretty sobering.

Great show.... I watched it about a week ago myself. Another good one to watch is Senna if you havent seen it already. My wife and even my mother in law liked it

the segment with David Purley trying to free Roger Willamson from his burning car was one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

I know what you mean,Mark.I was getting chills watching that segment.You could feel his frustration and despair.
I havent seen Senna,but definitely intend to!

Senna was the best movie I saw last year, it's worth buying when the dvd comes out
