Bow on top not attached

Post by nibbes123 »

Hi can anyone give me an idea on how too reattach the cloth that runs along the back bow near the window, it has come apart so when I lower the roof it does not go down together with the top have to help push down on it, when I raise the top it goes way forward have to push back on it to lock in the tension on the back window. Any type of glues out there that can be used to glue the cloth to the vinyl top.
Thanks
Nick

theres supose to be a plastic cap to hold the fabric to the bows
they were sewed on

mine ,was missing and the last bow fell
or sliped back to the window all the time
it drove me NUTS

so i tied string from the mid bow to the last bow to hold it up
untill i replaced the top frame form an old car that all the parts

That string thing is a GREAT IDEA! I have the same problem which I'm sure will be fixed when I eventually get a new top. Maybe something a little classier than a string though. Maybe a COACH string!

Hey 124JOE sounds better good on what you did with the string. Would you be able to post a picture of the frame with the string still attached.

The string tip is a great idead! Never thought about something like that. You keep the correct distance and the front bow pulls the rear bow in place. Neat. I have a new top now, so I hope I don't have to implement that workaround any time soon, but great tip!

Nibbes123,

Did the flap came unglued or completely apart from the top?? If just unglued, you can use some contact cement or 3M adhesive to glue it back.

Here are a few photos from my build thread:

Flaps glued around the bows and plastic trim installed:

I centered the bow on the middle of the flaps, where you see the stitching. I then sprayed the flaps on the inside with some 3M Spray Adhesive. I sprayed closed to the flap, but just in case, I covered the window to avoid any glue overspray from reaching it...

Plastic trim. Just snap it in place.

All plastic trim for the bows installed...

My top doesn't have any of the plastic trim pieces. I never knew there were such a part until your pictures. Are these available anywhere?

Yeah, I've never seen those either. Must have been on the 80's Spiders. Definitely not on earlier ones. I wonder if they are available.

I've personally not seen them on cars older than 1979. My 79, 80 and 81 all had them. Bruce's Parts Bin had replacement bow covers. I don't know if he still does or not. I haven't heard from him in a while.
