My '71 is probably totally normal but the stance looks ever so slightly lower in the rear. No big deal but most of our driving will include my son in the rear seat so i'd like to maybe raise it a hair so it sits level with him back there. My friend suggested making wood spacers (that I assume would look like donuts) to sit under the springs. Has anyone done this? If so can you tell me the specs of the spacers?
Thanks
George

George,
When I was driving to FFO with a passenger and trunk full of luggage the rear of my '71 was pretty low as well.
The later Spiders had taller rear springs to raise the bumper height. You could install a set of those. Maybe even cut them half a coil to make them lower.
I'm sure I have a used set around if you can't find any closer.

if you are running hydraulic shocks in the back, you can go to gas shock and that will raise the tail about an 1"

raise it with the right size springs instead of gas shocks. gas shocks work fine on the front but are not ideal on the back of a light weight front engine car. they do not dampen the springs very well and the ride quality will be awful.azruss wrote:if you are running hydraulic shocks in the back, you can go to gas shock and that will raise the tail about an 1"
you can also get some spring spacers. usually 1 inch is the smallest thickness they come in. JEGs, and Summit racing and others have a lot of them listed in various diameters.
