1979 Fiat 124 "Alessandra"
Re: 1979 Fiat 124 "Alessandra"
Nice job, let me know what the final result turns out to be! I'm going for the small round mirrors, since the car has round headlights, i don't like the original mirror, it won't move and it won't stay if it does. I'll end up using the rims it has on back, but i'll prolly paint black in between the lines, if that makes sense?

Do you want to remove the end or the whole thing (tube).. The tubes are bolted inside the trunk. One in the spare tire well and the other under the gas tak fiber board cover. 19 or 20 mm I think. You may have to remove the gas tak to get that one out. Not sure if there is enough room to remove the bolt without removing the tank.

brandonjayy: As you were asking, here is the flag type Vitaloni mirror painted in silver:
(I must admit that I agree that the round ones look better in general!)

Re: 1979 Fiat 124 "Alessandra"
It started life Bronze, but was painted red by some prior owner. There is a slight orange tint in there, which I am not wild about. But the paint job is really pretty good, certainly not bad enough that I would respray it, so red it stays. I am changing over the exterior accessories to silver, to try to make the look somewhat different from the usual. We will see.... I may be undoing it all if it looks terrible. <{:^)

Re: 1979 Fiat 124 "Alessandra"
Joe, PM me if you want rear bumper shocks. I have a '78 that I'm going to take the bumpers off of when spring hits (for real, not 45-degrees-in-January Spring). I am going to try to keep the front bumper intact, because it is in fairly decent condition, but the tubes on the rear will not be worth much to anyone, but the shocks are in decent shape. And I'm not to far away from you, so shipping will be easier. Let me know.124JOE wrote:when you get them all out box them up for shipping $100 is my offer

Re: 1979 Fiat 124 "Alessandra"
Clutch Cable is in, everything is back in working order!
I keep the top down from now on, i drive around with the boot on. I'm always wearing sweaters, people think i'm crazy. it's 30 degree weather and i'm rolling around with the top down because i'm scared to rip more of the window!
Black Boot and Tan Interior, for the win.

Re: 1979 Fiat 124 "Alessandra"
The Speedometer started spiraling and sounding like an annoying buzz, no clue where to start on that one..
Re: 1979 Fiat 124 "Alessandra"
Dang transmission locked up! Putting a parts car tranny it. Lets see how that ends up...
Re: 1979 Fiat 124 "Alessandra"
Still haven't been able to get to the tranny, but i got a Job
I have my days off soon, so i'll get around to it, and i might re-do the suspension with the next paycheck
The possibilities are endless! Any suggestions on what to put into the suspension? For sure i'm buying Upper & Lower A-Arms from Vicks, but what about shocks & springs?

Re: 1979 Fiat 124 "Alessandra"
lets go back a bit if your doing a tranny you should replace the seals ft/rear
ok replacing the aarms get the ones with ball joints and bushings
lowered springs are a differnt ride "so i hear"
rear susp-- panhard and all links inspect bushings
make sure rust isnt an issue

Re: 1979 Fiat 124 "Alessandra"
Haven't been here for a while, i haven't done anything really!
I swapped the tranny from my parts car, the shift stick itself isn't very "stable", for lack of a better word.
I've had to go under the car on the side of the road and re-apply the bolt that holds the stick itself in place. Not the easiest of tasks, but i've learned so much since i've been offline.
The place i worked at closed down
i never got to put in the suspension, but i did do a tune up!
Spark Plugs & Wires, Gas Filter, OIl change & filter, I intended on doing the whole 9 yards, but the folks at AutoZone gave me the wrong cap, turns out, i have to order the Distributor Cap & Rotor for a '78 as opposed to my car's year, '79. it's wierd too, because i have the window cranks for a '78...
I have a BOSCH 14v Alt., is that normal?
I tried to replace the back window with a table vinyl cover, didn't go so well, next up, Clear Shower Curtain...
Well, here's some pretty pictures for you.
Gas Filter and Oil Drain
Just the parts and a dirty engine

Hey I just saw your thread for the first time. That's a really cool color! I like it. Although I assume not original? Still nice though.
Stinks about the job... Sorry to hear that. But glad you've still got your car and get to do some work on it! I assume you got the blinkers and lights all working? If not, did you try taking them all out and just giving all the cleanings and the bulbs a good cleaning. That's what I did and it worked well.
