To be fair to our British friends, I must admit that there is nothing like sitting in a TR2 or 3 and being able to reach out and touch the ground. It is a unique styling experience.

I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but Fiats are just no my favorite. Nothing against you guys or anyone else as I think I will learn a great deal from you and my moms Spider.

And for you with the bad story's about British sports cars, one of my favorite sayings: "It is not the car that is unreliable, it's the person driving it"

I can assure you that I have heard many story's about Spiders being the worse car ever built, but the people telling it all agree that the were young and stupid. My dad's first car was a 1974 Fiat Spider, the thing was rusted and didn't even have paint, just primer. He said that it was the most unreliable car ever, sometimes he would have to take his parents car because it would't start. He always fixed it and learned a GREAT deal about cars, but sold it because it literally rusted in half. He is now the most car responsible person I know. ALWAYS tinkering with his car, and it's a 1998 Honda Civic! But he said the guy that had it before him was a COMPLETE idiot, never took care of the thing, so like I said, not a single car is unreliable if you take care of it, some just require........ a little more love

The problem here is that you need to unscrew the 4 screws holding in the seats before you try to lift them out of the car. Without unscrewing those 4 screws, it's going to be really difficult to remove those seats. They don't pop out like VW seats. I find that it's easier to first move the seat as far foward as it will go and undo the rear screws. Then, move the seat back and unscrew the front screws. Once all 4 screws have been removed, you can then lift the seat out with ease. But, if you leave one or more of those screws in, it's gonna be a PITA to get them seats out. It takes about 5 minutes if done properly and about 15 minutes if done marginally adequate. In fact, I put my seats in last night as I just got her painted. Happy to say that they went in just as easily as they came out. To be honest, the whole car seems pretty easy to work on. Just remember, it's not an MGB so it's going to be a bit different.

PS, I do like the look of the Spitfire in the picture though.

I get that when an owener dosent do the required maintanince, and the car falls apart its not the cars fault. But when a car constantantly fails, well still under warranty. then continues even when the required work is done. That car was poorly built. Ill admit Its the only M G that was ever owened by anyone in my family. Because of hoc it fell apart no one ever considered another. We have had Fords, Vw,s Fiats, Pontiacs,Chevys ,Etc. No otherc car came near to failing us like that poor Midget. It was cool when it did work though.

I can confirm this. There are four screws for each seat in sliders under them. I unscrewed them yesterday, and easily took bouth seats out. Here is the pic of front screw position.

It kills me when I hear storeis like this. Where someone buys a used FIAT which was never well cared for, and then gripes when it has probems! I caught a lot of crap for buying my Spider new in 1978. "Why would you do that"? "What are you thinking"? The salesman told me, "don't listen to the nay-sayers, just follow the recommended service, and don't hot rod it all the time, and you'll have a long lasting car". 34 years and 200,000+ miles later and I still own it. Sure, I've done many things to it over the years, and finally replaced the entire engine at about 150,000 miles with a NOS 1800. By the way, when they pulled the motor they noticed the clutch was never replaced either...and I learned to drive a stick on this car...on the hills and streets of San Francisco, no less! I have long since had the last laugh on everyone who "knew better than to buy a Fix It Again, Tony car"! While they have gone through a dozen cars over the same period of time, and are now envious of the beauty and classic car I still own. I also had the fine fortune of finding a mechanic who was a FIAT racer as well as a fanatic of these cars, and he kept it running at its ultimate all these years. So, you can see why it grates on me when I hear the uninformed state that these cars are "junk". Let them think what they want. We, the initiated few, know better.

I'm also a Moto Guzzi freak and get the same dumb remarks from those who know NOTHING about the brand. Best damn bike I've ever owned, and I've owned them from Honda to Harley, Kawi to Triumph, Ducati to BMW.
