Double hump roll bar

Post by ga.spyder »

There is a beautiful Spider for sale on ebay, that has a Miata-like double hump roll bar.I think it looks fantastic! What do you think?I contacted the owner and he said he designed the bar,and had a shop in Ohio bend the tubing and weld it up.He didnt give any more info.Very cool! 8) Link to the ebay ad

A guy in Missouri custom made one like that for his Spider. At one time I had the idea of buying a bar like that made for a Miata and modifying it to fit a Spider. Guess what? All double-hump bars for Miatas were sold for aesthetic purposes only!!!
All the safety rollbars were of conventional design.

The talk of the ones being offered for sale was a friend of Brady's.I think the idea was shelved due to the cost(ver expensive) to produce.I was hoping the owner would be more forthcoming with info on this one.I really like it.
I dont doubt that they are for looks only, but dang they do look good.Since most track days just require a roll bar,and not certified,I bet that bar would suffice.I do some SCCA corner work and the track days are full of Miatas with those little double humpers :D

That design looks more "basic" than what Brady's friend had priced out producing. That one might not be that expensive to "crank out". Craig, why don't you go ahead and buy that Spider...it is very nice looking...and we can pull that roll bar out and find someone that can make copies cheap enough to sell

Just what I need...a $8000+ roll bar!!!!!I have been screwed over on one roll bar already
That car is a beauty, and if I was in the market I would give it a long look. There is another one near me ,that was on craigslist that is a gorgeous car.The guy is a collector and vintage racer, and all the work has been done by the famous Mercedes restorer that also lives in that area.I told him to send me the listing and I would post in on some forums. They are out there!!!

I know I just sold Luigi and I'm not in the market but I also have been eyeing this car. Looks like a VERY nice example. But, who knows what $s he really wants as it hasn't met reserve. Might be one of those $17k cars?

Hi everyone,

I also contacted the EBAY guy about the rollbar. He told me he designed the unit, then had the tubes bent by a shop and lastly took it home and welded and painted it himself. He did a great job, beautiful welds and a great paint job. I told him I wished he had made two as I would love to buy one. Funny thing is that I also saw a miata today with the top down and parked where I got a good look at the rollbar. It is not that good and looks like it could actually hurt you. The bar is very simple, attaching to the frame at only two points so it looks like it could easily twist and bend into one's head. Here is a picture: http://www.ilovebodykits.com/product/14 ... nless.html I also found some pix of rolled miata's while looking for the miata rollbar....if you every thought a fiat looks better without a rollbar check this out (caution its graphic) http://www.miataclubofhawaii.com/forum/ ... hp?p=23560 One thing cool about the Miata I saw today was the seat, with speakers imbedded, awesome.

PS: one more website for rollovers. Notice the Miata stylebars were mostly useless in crashes.
