Hey, give them some credit. They did get the exterior color right, after all...

Is a spitfire really worth 7K?
Had a friend in college that had one and you could literally see the road beneath your feet riding in it.
And that was 35 years ago.

Yeah, early perfect ones are now $20K+.
The big bumper mid to late 70's ones are dogs.
Let's face it old cars are a nostalgia thing and the MGB's and Triumph's were around from the early 60's, so there are more folks attached to them.
Our Spiders were better cars then and still are now.

I believe the only thing Italian about it was the designer... Giovanni Michelotti.
My Neighbour had one but to make it go reasonably well when he slalomed the car he had to put a Webber on it.
Yes the spider is a superior car in my opinion.. handling, interior space, power....all superior, they are tied in the electrical department though..

Re: Fiat Triumph???
You know, I think the most disturbing thing about that ad is that it was created by a car dealer. One would hope he/she would know better... at the very least, know the difference between a Fiat and a Triumph. What's next a Ford Impala? A Dodge Mustang?
A mate of mine bought a Spitty for $500 last summer. It has a bit of rust and needs brakes, but not it's not in terrible condition, but not brilliant, either. When I told him I was looking for a roadster, he said a work mate of his was selling a Spider and I should take look. After I bought the Spider, and he had Spitfire pieces strewn all over his garage, his unhappy wife asked him, "Why didn't you buy the Fiat?!". Had to laugh.

Re: Fiat Triumph???
Yep, defiantly some problems there. Although Spiders and the Spitfires are both roadsters, so they have something in common..... Sorta. But I have to say, a Triumph is a much better car than a Fiat. Although it has Lucas wiring, it's a lot less complicated than a Spider. I have MGB's so not an expert of Fiats, but I've had a lot more trouble taking the Fiat seats out than I have had trouble completely disassembling the MGB!

I don't think you can disassemble a MGB by taking out 8 screws. Although the newer ones do have only one carb.Youngmgbuilder wrote: I've had a lot more trouble taking the Fiat seats out than I have had trouble completely disassembling the MGB!

Re: Fiat Triumph???
My point was that the seats won't come out of the Fiat, due to stupid designing. But have been able to disassemble most of the 1977 MGB with ease

Re: Fiat Triumph???
I'm afraid I don't get it. I'm somewhat mechanically challenged but I was able to get the front seats out of my Fiat by undoing 8 allen screws (4 each side). The bottom of the back seat came out by pushing against the front edge and lifting. The upright portion of the back seat came out by undoing 2 screws.

Re: Fiat Triumph???
The only experience I ever had with an MG, was my sister buying a new one in 79, It was always in the shop when under warrenty. When out of warrenty my sister gave up asnd gave it to my brother. Then it came home alot behind another car with a rope. He finally sold it for $25.00.All this time I was driving my 71 spider all over. Only towed home once. Timing belt broke. I got a book and replaced it. Personally I like the spitfires styling. And I really like all the tr models.

Re: Fiat Triumph???
I was a big fan of the MGB for awhile. A good friend of mine at University had one. The "for awhile" part lasted until I had to help put the top down (I think I could get the seats out of my Fiat quicker) and until the engine on the MGB came apart on a weekend trip to the Okanagan Valley....in the middle of nowhere...at 6:00am ( we left Vancouver at 2:00 am - on a whim - what can I say, we were young and stupid). The car had about 20K miles on it. Piston through the block. So much for MGB's in my book. I bought my first Fiat Spider a year later, in '72. Have never regretted the decision!
