Another Hood liner question

Post by georgeramos »

Does anyone have one from a "small bump" (74 I think) hood that they could trace on paper for me? I have found a couple of interesting materials and want to make my own...I will of course document the process

I'd happily pay shipping.

Thanks!

Big bump hoods started in 79. There are a few factory late 78 cars with 79 handles or hoods around.

and they take newer style hinge brackets and latch

George,
You can order the correct "quilted" hood liners for the small bump hood from Mr. Fiat. I got mine from him and they were reasonably priced.

Kevin your car is breathtaking. Inspirational for sure.

Thanks for the tip. i thought the Mr Fiat ones were $150. I'd be happy if i can make my own for under $75...

i'll look them up tho.

The shop emailed and said the only material they could find was Thermozite which is a foil backed type. They also have available heat resistant "vinyl" type fabric in solid colors. no perforations or quilting though. The 2 layers could be double stick taped together then the liners attached to the hood in the same way. Or you could just use the Thermozite and have a silver colored liner.

heres what they said..

"Black Firemaster Plus fabric costs $53.74 per yard and our dealer charges an additional fee for purchases under 10 yards.

I think the most cost-effective solution is the Thermozite we talked about yesterday.
The single sided foil costs $21.90 per yard.
The double sided foil costs $29.90 per yard.
The foiled tape costs $9.90 per roll (30’)"

So if anyone is interested perhaps we can make a "bulk" order and i can ship you the material you will need to make your own. If the bolts are 48" wide one yard of each layer should suffice to make 2 liners... still not super cheap though.

I have one other "vendor" looking into alternative(s) for me and if I hear from them I will post.
