Lemons racing in a Fiat part II
Yep...again! Most of you are familiar with the Lemons racing phenomenen, for those that arent it began as a idea for normal not wealhty people to go road racing. The cars are $500 cars, with no limit on safety spending. Its emphasis is on low budget, high fun.More info at http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/
We had a effort in a clapped out, donor Spider a couple years back.2 blown motors, bad tranny, missed event later it was still the most fun I have ever had in a car.We won a trophy for Heroic Fix ,for driving 200 miles and taking a motor out of a car that was sitting in a field. We brought it back, installed it,and ran all day Sunday! We havent been able to get together to do it again.I had another effort going with kmac, but again it is really hard to get 4 people in one spot at the same time to get anything done.
A couple months ago, another Fiat guy posted a facebook page with his new Spider effort.I responded that if anyone dropped out, that I"have firesuit...will travel" And,sure enough, they had a dropout.I am now #4 driver on Scuderia F.A.R.T.(Fiat Abarth Racing Team).
The car made its debut yesterday at Carolina Motorsports Park(long course) yesterday during a track day.Our first race is March 2nd and 3rd,so it is getting close. The car ran flawlessly all day,and turned some respectable lap times. No real issues!!!The only glitch is the dual carb setup seems to be set a little rich. Some of our Texas friends(hello,Jeff and Csaba) may be asked for a little assistance on the setup. So,wish us luck,we will try to represent.

Sounds like you are almost ready for the big day! Just let us know what mods you have made (header, cams, valves, etc), and what your jetting is.

Re: Lemons racing in a Fiat part II
Thanks,Jeff.I will get that info and either pm you with it,or maybe get you in contact with Lou Scogmilio who built the car. They called me from the track asking about the carbs.I thought of you right away,as I know very little about how to set them up.I remembered that you led Denise thru getting hers right.

Re: Lemons racing in a Fiat part II
Thanks,Csaba.I am getting the info from the cars main builder re. whats is in the car now.Hopefully just a jet change or something simple. The car ran pretty good lap times,so it should just need a little tweaking.Since I wasnt there,I am not exactly sure why they feel it was running rich.

Re: Lemons racing in a Fiat part II
John,it is the best time I have ever had in a car.The emphasis is on fun,and nobody takes themselves too seriously. Not to say the competition isnt serious..it is.I will get as many pics as I possibly can,and possibly do a story for the next Ricambi magazine. Here is a great video that was recently done by autoblog

Re: Lemons racing in a Fiat part II
We have a race similar to that with the 500.00 rule but the track is dirt and homemade out in a pasture. It gets kinda wild and not as organized as the lemons. Haven't thought about entering a Fiat. Overheating is everyones main problem. You would be surprised at how many and where you can mount a radiator.

That is soooooooo cool. I love the car. Good luck, I know you will have a great time.
I still want to get a group together in the TX area to do this. They usually have a couple of races in TX. At least one in Dallas and one in Houston. If you're game, I am. looks like a blast.

Had to share this photo of why you should think hard about letting Craig drive a Lemons race car. Just saying.

My favorite moment of our race.Passing the Miata and the Alfa Spider!! Of course I may have ..er...overrevved it a bit,and blown the rotor and distributer cap in a hundred pieces!
