Center Caps for Steel Wheels?

Post by RRoller123 »

Has anyone seen/have a source for center caps for the 13" stock STEEL wheels? In the interests of saving a lot of money, I have blasted and repainted my steel wheels, but I don't want to paint and put back on the ~6" dia. plastic stock hubcaps. I don't like their look very much. I see sources for the caps that will fit alloy wheels, but none yet that are specific to the steel wheels. Any thoughts on this? Thanks. Pete.

The hole on the steel wheels, as best I can measure it, seems to be 58mm (can't get the caliper directly on it). Probably going to just put the 6" plastic hubs back on. I suppose one could grind down the FIAT lettering that is slightly raised on these plastic hubs and then adhere one of the numerous aftermarket badges. There are some that are aluminum and might last awhile.

Here is where I am so far. I would appreciate opinions on what look sbetter? Keep the hubs black, or paint them silver to match the wheels? The lugs have been wired, acid etched and clear coated.

Thanks 124 Joe, you are a fine, generous fellow. Here is what I ended up doing to them last night. I filled the indents with red paint to "match" the car color. I think I will run this for the season and see if it looks good and holds up. If not, they can be ground and painted and/or the aftermarket 55-60mm emblems can be applied. Lots of alternatives for a detail fanatic such as I. <{:^)

Here's a pic of the way they were painted originally w/ black paint on the rims too.

Fine looking car, Doc. That is what I started with too, but the PO had painted the entire wheel black, i.e. not just the factory spoke pattern was black. I retained the chrome trim rings available that were on there, I don't think I am going to use them with the new paint scheme. They are in good shape, but have a few scratches on a couple; if anyone is interested in them. Here is what the wheels looked like after blasting and during acid etch:
