You can buy vacuum block offs at your local auto parts store, they usually come in a variety pack. You can also get a crankcase vent filter that fits the crankcase vent hose if you don't want to run it to the base of your new air cleaner. If you do want to run it to the filter housing, you will have to reduce the hose size to get it to attach to the nipple on the air filter housing.

I have taken everything off and put on the new intake and carb. looked good until I hooked up the throttle linkage and found I needed another spacer so the rod wouldn't rub on the cam covers

Question - I still have the charcoal filter installed. all of the top hoses are flopping freely but there seems to be a large hose connected to the bottom of it and I'm not sure where it goes - back to the gas tank? What should I do? Can I block of the top hoses and leave the filter anchored to the car or should I take it off and plug that hose or ??

Tx

I removed the charcoal canister and just blocked off the large hose.

the lower cannister hose goes to the tank, leave it connected. The large hose on top went to the float bowl. If you want to connect it you'll have to drill the carb top and put in a fitting, otherwise you can cap it. The small hose is a vacuum hose used to purge the cannister. Tee that into the small port on the carb for purging tank vapors

Yes, the bottom hose is a vent hose for the fuel tank. I would leave that one in place, block the others, and call it good.

if you leave the tank connected to the cannister, don't block off both of the other ports. You need to tee a vacuum hose to it to purge the vapors

on my 78 theres three vent tubes that go into one via plastic connector

Hi,

"Me too", sort of...

Replacing my '78's 32 ADFA with a 32/36 DFEV: How do I correctly cap/plug the engine-side choke coolant connection?
(I've got the Allison nipple-less pipe.)

Thanks,
Mark

normaly you would take off a hose and put the other one on that nipple, making a loop
if you only have one then take a peice of hose 2"and fill one end with high temp black rtv silicone
if you tape near the end it wont get sloppy, remove the tape when still wet
let dry,cut off end 1/8"to clean it up then clamp it on the nipple

this also works for vacume lines

It's Alive :D

I got it all put back together sans all of the emission control junk. Looks a lot less crowded. Makes quite the clacking noise from the exhaust side. I see reading from the threads that this is somewhat normal. I'll try putting in some 20w50 and some zinc and see what that does for it.

Think I'll drive it this summer and then put in a 1800 head as the winter project.

Thanks to everyone for all your advice.
