Good choice.Divers wrote:Well...removal has started...this should be fun
radiator is out and moving ahead.
I can't wait to see it all sorted, cleaned up and back in place..
Re: 1981 Restoration
After a great conversation with BEEK the other day...decided to post an open ended question about the engine rebuild.
Background -
I do not want nor do I need nor can I afford a race engine
My flywheel is out with Jason being lightened and dowel pinned already.
I have the rear seal and bearing already to be replaced.
S0........
What should I do? Let say that I have a budget not to exceed $500 (I will accomplish the labor or beg BEEK for help
Thinking about increasing the compression (cheap increase in HP)
......anything else......outside of gaskets.....

Re: 1981 Restoration
Luckily I was planning performance valves and such! The head does not bother me that much (until I remove the cam's tonight and then freak out when I see their condition!!!!!!!! UGH!!!!
The pistons are a whole other issue...the cylinders look bad and may have to be bored...which means probably larger pistons to the tune of $400 for HC....YUCK!!!!!

Re: 1981 Restoration
Nice clean-up on the head, sorry you found the engine in such a state. Sounds like its on its way to great heights. We're both at a similar place within our engine builds, and I see I'm lucky to have discovered the internals of my 1608 to be in good shape so far...
So did your cams turn out to be usable?

Re: 1981 Restoration
So far everything is just a mess...once clean, the cams looked good. The valve guides even look good, however, I will be changing those also. Started trying to get the block apart, but the crank pulley is killin me.
