When we replaced the old wood burning stove in our log home this year I asked the installer about putting a similar stove in my toy box. He said that they do not install stoves in areas with gasoline storage be it in cans or vehicles. We have plenty of wood and it would be very convenient.dmwhiteoak wrote:Of all these great ideas for heating the barn , why has no one suggested
a wood stove ? That is the direction I'm headed. I have plenty of firewood .

The flamables were one thing I considered and my stove will be placed in a safe area. I keep my fuel cans outside under one of my sheds but didn't think about the car or lawn equ. When I find the right stove it will be as safe as possible and only burning when I am in the shop/barn. It's 30' x 40' so surely I can keep my baby away a safe distance. You got me thinking.

I have one friend that heats a shop, where he does a lot of body work, with a wood furnce. I have another friend that heats a 30 by 40 where he maintines and builds race cars including painting them. I myself have heated a shop with wood. It is no more dangerest than using LP or kerosene they are all open flame. The thing that you need to check out before you do use wood is your insurance company.
