Re: FRENCH DISH
The closest thing I found to what you are describing is a french meat pie or "Tourtiere." I'm sure there are a bunch of different recipes but I found one with ingredients similar to what you describe. It sounds really good and it also sounds like your name for it is probably descriptive. (in more ways than one)

Re: FRENCH DISH
I spent 4 years in France.... and I never heard of anything like this. That doesn't mean I saw it all, but as a matter of fact, most french have never seen (or would know what to do with) a Dutch oven.
Most dutch oven recipes are variations on other, classical recipes. So thinking about a well-known French dish that incorporates both pork and beef, how about "Boeuf Bourguignon"?

yup, this is most likely the one.MrWampus wrote:The closest thing I found to what you are describing is a french meat pie or "Tourtiere." BIG note: this is not French! it is French-Canadian. Calling this a "French Dish" would be like calling Hamburgers "English".

But you forget the cheese with the gravy and the fries.

You have relatives from Quebec, and you don't know what poutine is? Quel domage.fiat218 wrote:what is that? frys and gravy. ? that what i came up with when i looked at the pictures of poutine?FulviaHF wrote:needs a side dish of poutine...
It's fries and cheese curds, smothered in gravy.

Re: FRENCH DISH
Here in Wisconsin, my mother in law (who is from Upper Michigan -but of Italian decent) makes a meat pie called a "Pastie" It is basically a pie crust shell with cooked ground beef and pork with cubed potatoes and onions inside. The shell is very crunchy and since the meat is precooked -there is very little grease. They are just excellent and so ubiqitous in the UP that you can buy them at most gas stations and convenience stores - but only in the UP. Of course the home made ones are just so much better....
