Hazard Flasher

Post by katsi »

I am working on getting my car back on the road withing the next week or two so, I was going over a few items when I noticed something funny. It seems that when I turn on my right turn signal, my hazard flasher is in sinc with the turn signal. I don't know if I need to mess with it as both turn signals work and the hazards work as well. But?

Anyone know why or ever have this problem? Or, is it the normal - bad ground?

Had this exact issue recently. Removed hazard switch and checked all wires on ring (see link) then followed hazard light switch fix instructions and all fixed.

Thanks 4uall but, the problem is not that the flasher does not toggle in and out. It does and the hazzards come on when I toggle it. The issue I am having is that the flasher blinks with the right turn signal. The signal works fine it just beeps the big red light on the dash with it.

i was over zealous in helping. It is most likely a loose connection. Trust me I had the exact same issue. Take it out check the connections then see what happens before putting back.

Most likely a ground wire loose somewhere and the turn signal is feeding back upstream looking for the next nearest ground point. I had a very similar if not the same problem with my last spider years ago when I had it repainted. The guys left a ground point loose in the taillight assembly or something like that and once they traced the source and properly grounded it, problem solved.

I would agree you are looking at a loose / bad ground. First place to check is the taillight grounds. BE CAREFUL as they ground to one of the four posts securing the taillight assembly to the body and those studs are usually rusty and very easy to snap off. I removed my ground wires from the stud and moved them to a better chassis ground point and haven't had any issues since. On FI cars a bad taillight ground can cause all kinds of problems including low idle, stumbling and misfires! Even on carbed cars it can cause all kinds of electrical gremlins.

You can't be too over zealous when giving some advice on these cars. Even if the info is not immediatly relevant, it will none the less, sooner or later, become an issue and one will have to reach back to some obscure info once herd or article once read for the answer. So thanks. Not to mention, it was well written. And, I have seen quite a few guys who are still using toothpicks.

I will check the ground wires. If that does not do the trick, then I will take out the hazzard switch and go that route. Thanks. :D

The schematic I have shows that the Light Blue wire from the turn signal switch C20 goes hot with the right turn signal. This also feeds terminal R on the hazard switch. But with the hazard switch in, (meaning off) the internal switch lightbulb should not be receiving power. There are 2 other intended connections to the hazard switch internal lightbulb. One is the Black/Violet ground wire that goes to GND cluster 3. So it could be (and probably is (?)) an internal short in the hazard switch. But the light also has the Light Blue/White wires attached at hazard switch terminal 15. These could somehow be receiving the turn signal power, but seems less likely since one goes to Fuse 1, the other to the gas sensor indicator.

According to the schematic, another possibility is that if the Light Blue wire from the turn signal was somehow plugged into the opposite end terminal (unlabeled on my diagram) of the hazard switch, it would be inadvertently feeding power to the light when the turn signal was on.

have you checked your bulbs?
to see if they are the right bulbs
my thought is if someone put the wrong bulb in "it may be 90 degrees off"
and crossing the contacts
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)
