Ash Tray Replacement

Hello - I have '77 Spider and want to replace the ash tray with a coin cup to serve as a holder for an MP3 player. Has anyone found a small plastic tray/coin cup that would fit in the existing cut out; maybe a current/recent model car's that would fit? I could take the ashtray out but was hoping for something cosmetically nice. Thanks

i think you best bet is to get an old one and scrap the lid then spray paint it

Somewhere in the custom stuff index there is a post about someone who converted their ashtray to exactly that, a phone holder. I tried to find it but can't! Basically the person guttred the silver inside the ashtray, glued in padding to creat a snug fit for the phone and voila, phone holder. Anyone else remember this post / link?

That is a really old post by a friend of mine,Mike Bouse(at least his was the first one I remember).I believe he removed the sliding lid,and lined it with adhesive backed foam.I use mine to hold my cell phone,although I left the lid/top on mine.Works fine.I will see if I can find the post or ask Mike to let me repost it.
