Trunk Floor

The stock jack fastens on top the pass. wheel well w/ a strap & I'm getting that the tool kit fastened the same way on the drivers side (am I right) so I need access to them.
My 78 didn't have side panels like I made (79 & newer) but I like the way they look & protect, but need to figure a way to make them work for access to the wheel wells & the jack/tools without having to "unbolt them".
I have found some boat cover type twist fasteners that I think I can make work (seen elsewhere on this site), along with some sort of stops/hinges along the bottom edges to make them work.

All said & done, w/ carpet, I think this will be very capable of anything I wish to haul in the "VERY BIG" trunk we have, without sliding around & denting the inside of the fenders during a sharp (performance) turns.

for a bottom hinge you can use an old seat belt cut to length and burn the ends so it dont unravel

I've got an '81 with the boards warped as hell but there so I'm looking at some "temper board" scraps lying around. A good coat of varnish should seal them. I spotted some nice tan trunk carpet at the store the other day to cover them and the piece that is missing at the trunk edge/tail light area. Might be a spring time project after I fix the heater valve.. BRRRRRR!

I replaced my floor with 3/4" ply. also changed the way the cover came off so it left the section to right of the battery in the trunk. I used that section to mount a permanent tool box. the floor has been indestructable. used the car for many years as a work truck and have carried everything from hydraulic cylinders to 55 gal drums. (yes, it will fit in the trunk). also got rid of the factory jack and found a small bottle jack that would store in the corner of the tire compartment.

as usual great info & pics from all ! make it light weight, two pieces, hinge side panels to protect inner fenders, paper template to cut pieces ? does anyone have a template ? tks to all this subject ( is this a great site Mark ! )
